“When there’s a school break, I can’t wait to return to the hostel..”

We had the privilege to document Sabah Credit Corporation (SCC)’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project - a hostel for the students of SK Kuala Salong in Nabawan, Sabah.

Since 2005, SCC has funded about 65 rural hostels in Sabah, costing about RM22 million.

SK Kuala Salong’s previous hostel was affected by a flood in 2019, with its structural integrity compromised. They applied to SCC in the hopes of getting a new hostel building in a more strategic and safe location.

The impact? The students are now more interested in staying at the hostel which led to more consistent attendance in school. They’ve also received feedback from parents who feel more assured about sending their children to stay at the hostel.
